I have to admit, as I begin this assignment, I can't help but be reminded of Live Journal. I can recall (though I'd just assume not) all of the time spent on LJ during high-school. We used to get on that site and blog our little, teen-angst ridden hearts out. We blogged about everything: our crushes, our thoughts, our dreams, our beliefs, sometimes just our days. Most importantly we blogged about our FEELINGS. And other people read about them too! But probably they didn't, actually.
So, speaking of high-school, I was a computer nerd in early high-school, which I think still has the effect of making me, to this day, overconfident when it comes to technology. I say I was a computer nerd because it's the truth; I was then, but not now. Back then, I took every networking class offered at my high-school. I was planning on going into desktop support, and eventually network administration. Then, something happened. I had an epiphany, or a series of epiphanies. I began growing as an intellectual. I began reading deep books, deep books I didn't exactly understand, but by-God, I read them nonetheless. I also realized that if I spent the rest of my life in front of a computer screen, my eyeballs would melt away or I'd go absolutely insane.
Since this revelation, I've been a bit of a Luddite. A hater, if you will, when it comes to technology. I see so many ways in which technology has made things convenient for people, but so many ways that it's totally dehumanized human interaction. Now, it's not that I think that I'm right and progress is wrong, it's just that I would prefer to keep technology out of my personal life, since I see it as a means of wasting enormous amounts of time (more time than it saves!), and also as a means of making my social life entirely ambiguous and synthetic. I'm sure without Facebook and Youtube, the people who waste all of their time online would waste their time doing something equally meaningless instead.
That was a digression. The whole point was that I am overconfident regarding technology, although I am hesitant to use it. Taking the survey, I realized that there were things on it that I had no idea at all how to do. Some of these things, I would like to learn how to do, such as video editing. Some I'd never even heard of.
This is also my first time Podcasting. I had no clue that one could podcast over their phone. It was an awkward experience for me. I felt like I was talking to no-one at all, and yet everyone out there in internet-land. I am sure that, thinking creatively, one could come up with many ways in which they could incorporate such an easy thing as podcasting in their classrooms, for their use, and their students' use as well. Oh well, without any further ado, here's my podcast about me.
Well, these are my preliminary thoughts, musings, and ramblings about the assignments so far. As for now, there's a box of off-brand mac & cheese calling my name...
